What is anxiety and how does it show?
Anxiety is NOT a personal weakness or mental illness. So many people are suffering from anxiety that we can easily say that anxiety disorders have become very common.
Anxiety can take many different forms, from uneasy feelings, excessive worry, fear, and apprehension to having panic attacks or a generalized anxiety disorder. Any form of anxiety can make you feel as though you are out of control of your life.
Anxiety disorders can have a significant influence on day-to-day life. Stress levels rise with all the known consequences of constant negative stress.
Symptoms of anxiety are physical feelings such as dizziness, chest tightness, breathlessness, fast heartbeat, and even the concern of suffering a heart attack or going insane.
Anxiety can interfere with your sleep, make it difficult to make decisions, and harm your general well-being. Anxiety can have a substantial impact on your life in many areas, including relationships and career goals.
Have you caught yourself worrying about specific situations, such as sitting in the middle of a row in a cinema, dreading traffic jams in tunnels, or being afraid of getting sick on the tram? Or have you started avoiding social situations altogether? Maybe you can’t stop worrying about your children? Or about the future?
Anxiety problems usually do not get better on their own. If you are lucky, they will not get worse, but in most cases, just another small trigger is enough to increase your anxiety problem. This is why it is important to learn how to handle or even overcome anxiety disorders.

What is anxiety coaching?
First and foremost, it is very important to keep in mind that any anxiety problem is highly individual, and so is the anxiety coaching process.
What all anxiety coaching processes have in common is that we will determine your type of anxiety and categorize your anxiety challenges. You will learn cognitive and emotional anxiety control techniques, as well as other mental techniques to address your anxiety, decrease your anxiety levels, and understand your body signals.
In a further step, you will learn that you have grossly underestimated the amount of control you can have over your situation. You will actively work on your mindset, the points where you are stuck, and how you will overcome your fears and achieve your goals.
From the very beginning of the coaching process, you will learn about anti-anxiety tools that you can use right from the start.

How long is the coaching process?
The length of the coaching process clearly depends on your anxiety disorder, whether it is a mild anxiety problem or a more severe condition.
I am not a fan of excessively long coaching processes, which is why I suggest a time window after our first meeting. This could be just two sessions after our initial meeting, or four, or maybe six. But that’s usually the maximum it needs.
And please always keep in mind that we are talking about coaching, not therapy; the aim is to equip you with the knowledge and techniques you need to work on your anxiety. If you do need psychological treatment, please see a therapist!
